ABOUT US

ChinaOne.Ningbo is a professional sailing team founded in 2017 with the support of the city of Ningbo and under the leadership of two-time America’s Cup winner Craig Monk. ChinaOneNingbo has become China's most successful racing professional sailing team ever, with 13 International Sailing Championships, and five World Champion title. The crew includes New Zealand sailor Phil Robinson, who has led the fleet to many world championships, Peter Postema, who has competed in the Finn class at the Olympic Games three times, America's Cup World Series Champion crew member Paul Campbell-James, Olympic sailing champion Xu Lijia, as well as China's best sailing athletes, Liu Ming and Zheng Yi, among others.

ChinaOne.Ningbo has consistently competed in the international sailing professional events and gained great achievements since it was founded, including the champion of M32 World Championship, the champion of the World Match Racing Tour (WMRT), the champion of the 69F Cup Final Grand Prix and so on.

Team

Craig Monk – CEO

Craig is a two times America’s Cup winner, Olympic Medalist for New Zealand and Star World Champion. He has been extensively involved in America's Cup racing and was the team manager of BMW Oracle Racing between 2003 and 2007.
Michelle Liu - General Manager

Michelle has more than ten years of experience operating sailing events and managing brands. She previously worked for China Cup, the largest international regatta in Asia, where she was responsible for branding, operations and partnerships. Michelle has been fully responsible for the management and operation of the team since 2019.
XU LIJIA - Skipper

2012 London Olympic Gold Medalist of Laser Radial class, where she was the flag bearer for China at the closing ceremony. A fantastic role model to inspire female sailors and athletes alike. We are proud that she is the Team Ambassador and join the race crew as a skipper in 2024 as well as the first female sailor in team.
Paul Campbell James - Skipper

A world-class sailor from Britian. He is a 4-time National Match Racing champion and raced in the 2013 and 2014 Americas Cup and won the America’s Cup World Series in 2014. He is the one of the current skippers of ChinaOneNingbo and won third place in the 2024 M32 European Championship.
Liu Ming – Sailor

Prior to joining the team, Liu sailed with China Guangdong's team and finished fourth in the 2010 Asian Games Regatta. In 2017, he joined the Dongfeng Race Team to compete for the Volvo Ocean Race and won the championship.
Frankie Zheng - Sailor

Born in Qingdao and began to learn sailing at the age of 8 and entered the professional team at the age of 15. He attended the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race for two times and completed 40,000 nautical mile sailing journey in the 2019-2020 race as the final champion. Frankie joined the team in 2022 and is the youngest sailor in the team.
Phil Robertson – Skipper

Originally from New Zealand, Phil is a world-class skipper who has been at the helm of ChinaOne.Ningbo for four years and has won four world championships, including the World Match Racing Tour Championship and the M32 World Championship.
Wang Jue – Sailor

Born in Jiangxi and raised in Shanghai, Wang Jue was the first Chinese Grinder to participate in the America’s Cup and the first Chinese sailor who was recruited in the SAILGP China team recruitment campaign. He has successfully competed with Team China in regattas around the world.
Scott Hansen – Sailor

Scott grew up in China and started racing in Shanghai when he was 13 years old. In addition to racing in international regattas, Scott has been active coaching young sailors in China, the US and Denmark.

Founders

Philip Sohmen 包文骏

Philip is a businessman and educator based between Hong Kong and Shanghai, and with family roots in Ningbo. A water sports enthusiast since an early age, he competed internationally for Hong Kong’s swimming and water polo teams. He developed his love of sailing at a young age with a particular enjoyment of catamaran and high speed sailing.
Rob McCormack

Rob is co-founder and COO of Andes STR, a firm providing turnkey services to investors in short-term rental real estate properties. He has spent half his adult life in Asia and is a long-time investor in both the US and Asia. He grew up sailing and taught sailing with ChinaOne CEO, Craig Monk, for two years while in college.
Craig Monk

Craig has been involved in competitive sailing for more than 30 years. He won a bronze medal in the Finn class at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and was then recruited as a grinder by Russell Coutts’ Team New Zealand, with whom he won the America’s Cup in 1995 and 2000. Craig was BMW Oracle Racing’s sailing team manager from 2003 until the 2007 America's Cup.
Alex Sun 孙肖

Alex is a founder of Akasha Capital, an investment company with interests in fintech, clean energy and real estate. She previously worked in the financial industry in Toronto, New York and Hong Kong and was global head of commodities for a leading Wall Street firm. Her interest in ChinaOne reflects her passion in sports and sustainability.
